The difference between the northbound and southbound Panama Canal transit is the direction that the Pacific Queen is headed. In the Northbound direction, the vessel heads towards the Atlantic Ocean (North part of the country). In the southbound directions, the vessel heads toward the Pacific Ocean (South part of the country). In both directions the vessel passes through the same places.

Another difference is the schedule. The check in time for the Northbound transit is usually between 6:00 and 7:00 am, while the check in time for the Southbound transit is usually between 9:00 and 10:00 am. The exact schedule for each transit is provided by the Panama Canal Authority on the day prior to the tour.
